Lights, Camera, Conservation! A Free Video Training Program
Tampa Bay Community Network is recruiting two types of people for our FREE Video Production Training Program with an emphasis on environmental literacy. Please share this widely! Details are below.
Who should apply:
Aspiring Communications Professionals: Individuals who want to pursue a career in video production or digital storytelling, with no or very little prior experience with environmental subject matter.
Environmental Enthusiasts: Individuals who have a history of environmental advocacy or education that want to leverage their passion for conservation into meaningful digital storytelling, but have no video production experience.
Applicants that are underrepresented in either the videography or environmentalist realms are encouraged to apply. This may include people from Black, Indigenous, queer, veteran, low income, multilingual, immigrant, senior (60+), youth (18-22), etc. communities, among others.
Requirements of participants:
Commit to attending 25 four-hour classes and field trips (both in-studio in Tampa and on-location around Tampa Bay) between April and December 2025
Have a strong desire to use video as a storytelling tactic
Create a video as a capstone of the program
Reside in Hillsborough, Manatee, Pasco, Polk, or Pinellas Counties
Have no formal video production experience
Be at least 18 years old
About the Program:
This program – valued at $12,000 per person – offers a unique opportunity to receive training in video production and environmental literacy. Eight participants will be selected for the program. Each participant will create a short video based on the topics learned and using the skills gleaned through the program. This video will be the building block of an impactful videography portfolio. Participants’ videos will be featured on both the Tampa Bay Community Network’s and the Tampa Bay Estuary Program’s cable channels, social media, and streaming platforms.
